YIELD
Approx 750 ml of dal curry.
INGREDIENTS
SACHET WITH LENTILS
50 ml sunflower oil
70 g onion peeled
3 g ginger crushed
3 g garlic crushed
1 sachet of dal spice mix with lentils **
750 ml water
20 g fresh coriander (optional, only for garnish)
** Lentils in the sachet are toor dal, massor dal and mung dal
** Add water to thin it as required during cooking
SACHET WITHOUT LENTILS
50 ml sunflower oil
70 g onion peeled
3 g ginger crushed
3 g garlic crushed
20 g dal spice mix without lentils
175 g of lentils of your choice
750 ml water
20 g fresh coriander (optional, only for garnish)
Onion and garlic free
- Do not add onion and garlic.
- Add 1 g asafoetida (hing).
Thermomix
- Reduce the water to 700 ml.
Note
1.Please be aware Chilli Farm's spice mix sachet includes salt.
2.The brands mentioned above are used for testing the recipe. You are welcome to use your preferred brands. Please note the outcome can potentially vary based on the choice of ingredients.
STOVE TOP COOKING INSTRUCTIONS
1.Gather all ingredients.
2.Chop peeled onions to a puree consistency. About 20 seconds in a food processor or a blender, set aside.
3.Crush ginger and garlic, set aside.
4.Fine chop of fresh coriander leaves, set aside. This step is optional.
5.Heat oil in a sauce pan.
6.Add onion and cook on low flame until it turns light brown.
7.Add ginger/garlic crushed and cook until oil comes to the top.
8.Add spice mix sachet with lentils and water, cook on MEDIUM-LOW FLAME until lentils are fully cooked. If you just got the spice mix from us without lentils, then add spice mix and lentils of your choice at this step. Keep stirring not to let the dal stick to the sauce pan.
9.Switch off the flame and add fresh coriander. Stir well rest it on closed lid for 15 minutes.
THERMOMIX COOKING INSTRUCTIONS
Enjoy the unattended cooking with thermomix. Add all ingredients at once and let the thermomix do the perfect dal.
1.Gather all ingredients.
2.Rough, small chops of peeled onion.
3.Fine chop of fresh coriander leaves, set aside. This step is optional.
4.Add oil, onion, ginger, garlic, a little water to thermomix and blend - speed 10, time 30 seconds.
5.Add lentils with spice mix, remaining water, cook - REVERSE MODE speed 3, temperature 100, time 40 minutes - place spatula in.
6.Add fresh coriander. Stir well rest it on closed lid for 15 minutes
SPICE MIX INGREDIENTS
Cumin seed, turmeric powder, coriander powder, salt, chilli powder. For sachet with lentils- toor dal, mung dal and masoor dal.
